For the first time ever in Hayfield history, Hayfield’s SGA is planning a Winter dance for high school students. Although still in planning within the SGA committees, Hayfield can expect to host a Winter dance for students to enjoy. But to the dismay of many Hawks, the dance appears to be a seniors only event. This leaves a huge number of students feeling left out in what is shaping up to be a major event this school year.
“I feel kind of bummed out that underclassmen cannot go to the dance as I was looking forward to the winter dance and ready to bust and move, you know?” sophomore Nathan Alemayehu said.
Events such as dances serve to bring friends together and the option to be able to go is always appreciated.
“Honestly, I feel like it’s not fair ’cause we are also high schoolers and we should have the chance to go to dances and be able to participate in activities. And I know this isn’t prom, so I feel like we should all have the same chance to have fun,” sophomore Taym Alhamdani said.
While prom is reserved for Juniors and Seniors, the winter dance doesn’t have to be. However, not all underclassmen hold the same view.
“I think that it’s okay because we had Homecoming and I feel as though that we don’t need another dance,” sophomore Devon Middleton said.
Some students are indifferent and don’t have a problem with not being able to attend, being satisfied with the previously held events.
Seniors who are able to attend should be excited, though, because a great event is expected as the SGA works tirelessly to host Hayfield’s first ever winter dance.
