Water bottle wars: Stanley vs Owala

Trends have always been a prevalent part of social culture. It started out with clothes, but slowly, the everyday items we use have become a part of the cycle. In 2019, Hydro Flasks were everywhere. But fast forward to 2024, and the market looks completely different. Let’s put it to the test, which of the trending water bottles is best in 2024?

Stanley

Everyone has seen a Stanley around school, so are they worth the hype?

The Pros:

  • Keeps drinks warm or cold for long periods of time.
  • The H2.0 Quenchers come in lots of fun colors to fit your style.
  • The tapered bottom lets to cup easily fit in cup holders.
  • The handle makes it easy to hold onto when carrying

The Cons:

  • The cups spills easily and have no closing lid
  • The cups have been found to have a small amount of lead in them, but it is essentially a non risk.
  • The cups can be large or bulky.

The 40 oz H2.0 Quencher retails for $45 on the Stanley website, but often retails for more, especially if you’re looking for a certain color.

Owala

The Owala bottles have been on the rise recently, especially in the hallways of Hayfield. How does the Free Sip compare to what else is out there?

The Pros:

  • The Free Sip bottle provides both straw and spout options
  • The bottles are spill proof
  • The mouthpiece is completely covered by a cap

The Cons:

  • The vacuum sealed bottles are not dishwasher safe
  • Vacuum sealed bottles are also not made to carry warm beverages
  • The 40 oz bottle is too large to fit in a usual cup holder
  • Some users have had difficulties cleaning certain parts of the bottle, specifically the mouthpiece

The 40 oz Free Sip bottle retails for $37.99 on the Owala website and other retailers. Be warned, if you’re concerned about certain color combinations, select ones are sold out.

The Verdict:

Ultimately, the decision is up to you! If a spill proof bottle with multiple straw options is what you need, the Owala is for you. If the ability to fit in a cup holder is important, get a Stanley.
