In 2017, Tom Holland showed that anyone can rock a black leotard and umbrella whilst singing Rihanna in the rain. Hayfield’s Student Government Association is looking for the next Tom Holland in the 2025 Lip Sync Battle on January 14th in the auditorium.
However, before Hayfield is able to find the new lip sync star, SGA has to carry out all the necessary preparations.
SGA will first hold an interest meeting to figure out who is going to perform. During the meeting attendees will receive standard information: school appropriateness, time limits for performance, and forms participants may need to fill out.
Following the meeting, SGA will find judges for this event, who are soon-to-be announced. The judging panel consists of teachers and admin to make sure that no biases will be reflected in the scoring. The past judges, including former principal Matt Mough, have really enjoyed the performances and have said that it’s always difficult to choose a winner
Lastly, SGA hosts rehearsals after school in the auditorium for about an hour and a half. During the rehearsals, SGA will go over the layout and help the participants with any questions they have. Typical questions that get asked by the students are, “when is the show?”, “how long is it?”, “can middle schoolers participate?”
Junior Aja Johnson-Morgan is involved in behind-the-scenes tasks that go into this event.
“[In the Lip Sync Battle, I am tasked with] making the script, making sure all the contestants have their song track, and costumes which is the most enjoyable part to me,” Johnson-Morgan said.
With planning an event like this, you can come across challenging and trouble-free parts.
“[The] Hardest part is the rehearsal process because everyone is there all at once. And it can get super chaotic and loud. [The] Easiest part is ordering the prizes because it’s super enjoyable to choose a fun prize,” Sienna Correy said.
SGA has a lot of goals pertaining to this event. Sophomore Kensley Ott explains SGA’s goals for the Lip Sync Battle.
“[SGA has] to make sure that we have a large range of participants. In order to do this, [SGA] make[s] sure that we advertise well through making good videos, flyers, and talking it up good. [Additionally,] we have to make sure that the prizes are something people want and will make them want to participate…[in order for this] event to flow smoothly and have no mistakes,” Ott said.
SGA is working hard to make sure this event goes perfectly. So if you want to be the next Tom Holland, sign up for the Hayfield Lip Sync Battle!
