Prom- the most magical night for high schoolers. Moves are busted, songs get played, and pictures get taken. All students across Hayfield are waiting in anticipation for April 25th.
When the idea of prom crosses your head, all you can think about is how excited you are. Prom is known to be one of the most exciting dances in high school and is truly what all students look forward to. Elliot Grant, a senior, acknowledges this excitement.
“It’ll be a fun night to go out with friends and take pictures and get glammed up,” Grant said.
For juniors, this is the first prom. We are over the moon to see what the night will hold. Getting dressed up, taking cute pictures, and eating yummy food seems like a blast. Having a great group of friends to go with will make the night even more memorable.
Prom is known to either be a blast or a total bust. As two junior teenagers who’ve never been to prom, we truly have no idea whether it’s going to live up to the hype or not. All we can hope is that the night is fun and everyone has a good time. Alyvia Young, a senior who has experienced prom before, thinks prom is a total bust.
“It’s just a bunch of teenagers standing around and talking. The events happening before and after prom are more exciting than the actual prom. The music isn’t always great and things happen that make you done at the end. Your feet start to hurt because you’re wearing heels or your dress starts to get uncomfortable because its rubbing on your arm. It’s just the buildup of things through the night that eventually make the dance less enjoyable that what I could be,” Young said.
Having plans before and after prom seems to be the most difficult task. You have to find a restaurant everyone likes and find good picture spots.
“[‘ll be] going out to eat as a group and taking pictures. Post-prom we’re just hanging out and playing games like poker and KIMPS,” junior Jack Suttell said.
Hayfield Secondary’s 2025 prom theme is (drumroll please!) Enchanted Forest!!! Most students agree that the theme is very unoriginal. It seems like a cute idea having the trees and little fairies for the enchanted aspect, but most schools do themes following this. Kiyan Slove-Rezvani, a senior, seconds this idea,
“It’s horrible. It’s literally the woods, what makes that fun? I don’t like it,” Slove-Rezvani said.
If anyone could change the prom theme, you would have a million different ideas. Every student has their different opinions on the theme.
“Masquerade or hollywood would be good. Because enchanted forest is just weird, it’s like I’m popping out of the woods or something.” Hung, a junior, said.
For the dance, finding a dress is super important. You take days and weeks to find the most perfect dress. Haylie Walker, a junior, still has to find her perfect dress.
“I haven’t picked it but I narrowed it down to two dresses. One is like hot pink because I LOVE hot pink. Then the other is yellow with flowers but I don’t look good in yellow so I don’t know which one I will pick.” Walker said.
The ladies will be looking fresh and fancy at prom. Guys, watch out!!
Music is arguably the most important thing at a dance. If you don’t have good music, you won’t have good vibes. Kaylinda Lee, a junior, hopes that her favorite type of music is played,
“Probably like R&B music,” Lee said.
Will Townes, a senior, additionally adds his hopes for the music going to be played.
“Either Rally music or house music,” Townes said.
Looks like house and R&B music is a fan favorite! David Guetta and Beyonce fans will be the most hype at the dance.
Since music is the most important thing at prom, every student has their list of music to not be played. “No shade… But Party in the USA pr Gasolina. They both are overplayed,” Lee said.
