“Something I hope people take away from the show is that age doesn’t define creativity,” said Senior Tessa Pilla from Hayfield High School.

As the event coordinator, Pilla marketed for the show through their Instagram page and put together the run-of-show. Senior Annaliese Gonzalez was the production manager for Fashion in Motion at Fairfax Academy. She was in charge of the stage management for the show.

Not only did they put the show together, they also created their own mini collections from scratch. The Fashion Careers 2 class created all of their looks from scratch as the Fashion Careers 1 class used thrifted clothing in order to upcycle their looks.

“We started on the original show construction in February. We started with just conceptualization, like sketching, mood boards, designing our collections. Then we were assigned to tasks…Then for the actual design process we made croquis and put together our looks,” Pilla said.

The process took up the whole year as they prepared for creating their looks all up until the real show. Even as the two girls prepared and created the show, they still managed to create their own mini collections that were featured, beautifully, on the runway.

“I was very much inspired by my own childhood memories and also the feeling of nostalgia. I wanted my dresses to reflect something that I and/or my dolls would have worn. I remember always wearing matching outfits with my dolls so I reflected the outfits my dolls would have worn into garments for children,” Gonzalez said.

Gonzalez’s looks were dresses modeled by two young girls in order to showcase her dreamy, nostalgic vibe that she was inspired by.

“My collection is mostly inspired by the 60s and icons like Priscilla Presley but also some more modern people who have a similar vintage charm like Sabrina Carpenter,” Pilla said.

Pilla’s looks were mini dresses modeled by three teenage girls from Hayfield High School. The dresses showcased light colors and old fashion themes in order to show her love for vintage fashion.

The show also featured previous FCPS students such as Chase Flores, the DJ for the show and Rafi Omari, the photographer. The show was a professional level production put on by the students that showcased the many creative minds that Fashion Careers 1 and 2 have.

“The show turned out incredible this year. I loved seeing everyone’s creativity and personal styles brought to life through their designs. I’m so grateful to have been able to experience it and help put it together. I can’t wait to see the future of Fashion in Motion,” Pilla said.
