Updated dress code alleviates concerns
December 9, 2021
For the first time in what seems like a long time, the school dress code has completely changed and done an entire 180 degree flip. A set number of rules has been completely erased and a trend in students changing their wardrobe choices followed along.
“I’m more comfortable wearing what I want without being judged, I feel more comfortable wearing what I want to, and my style has become more revealing,” senior Monica Oboite said.
Many other students talk about how they feel more comfortable taking a different approach with their fashion choices.
Students had issues with the previous dress code, and were extremely relieved to find out there was a change in rules. Due to a lot of rules being centered around things like skirts being too short and straps being too thin, a lot of female/feminine-presenting students felt even more targeted and felt as though the dress code had only been made to restrict them.
“The previous dress code was rooted in misogyny” stated Oboite, boldly.
Luckily, with this new dress code, female students across the school feel much more comfortable to wear the clothes they’d like without constantly being asked to change or make better clothing choices in the future. The days of them being stopped in the hallway are now over, and clothing choices are not bound to follow any harsh rules or regulations.
“I’m not being stopped in the hallways for showing my shoulders,” senior Madison Becker said.
Even teachers agree that the new dress code was a positive change for the school.
“I don’t have a problem, I feel like clothing is a personal preference, some kids are wearing more self-expressive clothing,” Psychology teacher Nicole Procaccio said.
Overall, it’s safe to say that the change in dress code has done more good for our school than bad. There’s been a huge change in wardrobe over the past few months, and students are able to express themselves more freely.
“I’m able to express myself and identify myself without any restrictions,” senior Kendra Gomez said.
