There is an exorbitant amount of classes that high schoolers have to consider and choose from based on what they want to pursue in their lives after high school. The classes that are chosen often depend upon what will best prepare the student for their desired major in higher education.
Advanced Placement (AP) Biology is a profitable course to take if someone desires to proceed with science related majors in higher education for a variety of reasons. A way AP Biology is profitable to take is it provides foundational skills and knowledge with chemistry, biotechnetics, genetics, and nurtures analytical thinking skills. Another reason for taking it is it prepares students to better progress in college and provides leverage to be accepted into higher performing colleges. It also provides some college credits.
Some may argue that AP Biology is not a good class to take to prepare for science majors in college and they are technically correct in a literal sense. That applies to all science classes, except biology, because you don’t really need to know biology terms like, secondary secession and the four nucleic acids unless they are majoring in a biology course. However, a class’ ability to prepare a person for majoring in a science course is not the information gained but rather the skills that it provides that will allow the person to succeed in their chosen major.
The course of AP Biology is an under-appreciated course that is commonly only taken by those who have decided to pursue a biology related major. More people should take AP Biology because it has a less rigorous curriculum than the other science classes at the same level, provides the same amount of credits as the others and also provides other essential skills.
