The long school year is finally coming to an end, and seniors have finally finished their high school year, deciding what college they want to attend and what they will major in. It’s time we ask the seniors if they could leave a message behind in high school, what it would be and what should underclassmen expect as they further their high school career.
“A message I would leave behind is to enjoy your time because it does go by fast,” senior Nora Daadaa said. “High school feels really long when you’re in it, but before you know it, it’s all over and you will miss the little things that you complained about, wishing you made the most out of it.”
Enjoying the present in high school is something many high school seniors intend to do in the future. But also, it is a time to reflect on their past years and evaluate what they could have done better.
“A message I would leave behind is take your first two years of high school seriously because they set the foundation for the rest of the school years,” senior Phoenix Card said. “The habits you build early, whether good or bad, will follow you throughout high school.”
Building good habits is imperative, but high school is also a place where students can make mistakes, learn, and grow.
“High school is a place you can learn more about yourself and what you might want to continue doing in college,” senior Lina Kong said.
High school comes with its struggles, but remember, it won’t be like this for long.
“When it comes to struggles in high school, just know you’re never gonna be in this kind of environment again, so keep looking up,” senior Ava Montenegro said. “Have a positive attitude.”
This positivity only encourages using your resources to your advantage and taking the initiative to push yourself forward through classes that allow you to do just that.
“Always try to push yourself forward to the next advanced class like having some sort of progression from Gen to Honor to AP to Dual Enrollment classes,” Montenegro said. “Lastly, really utilize your teachers and counselors and ask them for help. Also, I’d say get really involved with activities and clubs because it looks really good on college applications.”
Underclassmen need to focus on what matters the most and what benefits them as a whole.
“They should focus on school,” senior Sora Watson said. “Focus on what actually matters: your academics, your mental health, your physical being, just focus on something that will get you further.”
Make the most out of your high school experience, enjoy the time you have.
“Most importantly, make the most out of your high school experience. Go out, have fun, make memories with your friends, join activities, and enjoy these years while you, and don’t stress about school too much and make sure you balance your responsibilities, but also live in the moment,” Daadaa said.
