As a student who hears the term “AP” you might imagine excessive loads of homework, endless studying at night, and stressing out right before a test. The thought of all this can scare students, but if you are a sophomore, junior, or senior interested in a manageable and interesting advanced placement class, AP Psychology is worth considering.
I am currently taking AP Psychology, and my experience in it so far has been enjoyable, and much different from other classes. Though many students automatically believe APs are gonna be too difficult because of the expected workload, by staying on task and doing the work, the class is very manageable.
To start off, the workload is manageable, and most of the work in the course consists of lecture notes and vocabulary. If you pay attention in class and review the material, you’re already doing the majority of the work. Throughout the year there are multiple projects, but they are straightforward for the most part. As long as you read the directions and follow them step by step, they are doable.
Another reason why the class is worth taking is because of the teacher, Nicole Procaccio. She does an amazing job making sure the environment is comfortable for everyone. She is helpful and always willing to help answer questions, which makes a big difference, especially in an AP class. This can help students feel less stressed and more confident in the material.
Overall, psychology is an interesting subject. It’s about how we process information and what we do in our daily lives. Topics you can expect to learn about are emotions, memory, mental illness, and how people interact with each other. A lot of the material can be applied to our everyday lives and experiences, making the class much more interesting.
Of course, some people would say that taking an AP class will always be too much to handle and that can be the case for certain classes and people. However, AP Psychology does not have to be overwhelming if you manage your time well. Also, compared to other AP classes, this class would be a good fit for students who are looking for the challenge of an AP class without being overwhelmed by the workload.
At the end of the day, choosing a class is all about finding one that can challenge you and also keep you engaged. I believe that AP Psychology can do this as it is interesting, manageable, and suitable for everyone. Therefore, don’t rule out taking this course just yet, you may find it to be very interesting and enjoyable.
