Well known and respected CTE teacher, Ms. Andrea Wells, is an inspiring role model, a great teacher, and an amazing person. But although she may be very popular amongst students, her cyber security club is not as well known. Started in 2019 by Ms. Bergen-Hill, Wells would soon take her role as club leader following the pandemic. From that point on, Wells has helped build a thriving club that offers Hayfield students a plethora of opportunities in the field of cyber security and IT.
The Cyber Security Club offers game-like lessons in cyber security as a way to help students learn easier while motivating them to engage more in cyber security. The club starts off students with the basics of cyber security, setting the groundwork for students to expand from cyber security into programming such as Linux. There are many benefits that can stem from these activities.
“The benefits of learning cyber security include, good knowledge for jobs, helping you stay safe online, how to protect a company and a customer, coding and programming, [which] can be utilized in many different settings/jobs,” Wells said.
This is reflected by the overall goal of the club, which is to “makes the objectives more game-like making it easier to learn while motivating the students to engage more into cyber security which helps students see more into the world of cyber security, expanding into things like linux and other coding programs Over the years learning cyber security has been more accessible which is a part of the goal of the club by allowing people to come after school to spend an hour to learn and take time to learn cyber security.”
Since Wells has become the club sponsor, the club has improved as a whole with it being more accessible to students who want to learn more about cyber security.
