As we all know, AI is progressively becoming more and more active in our everyday lives. Everywhere we go, we are practically bound to notice it being used around us, whether that’s at school, through jobs, or even just on search engines. We are all victims of it.
But the question is, what are the real effects of AI on humanity as a whole?
There are many different types of AI that do harm in their own ways. However, the types that seem to cause the most harm are generative AI and agentic AI.
Generative AI is the type that we often see online. It is usually used to spread false information, create illusions, or simply to create entertainment. Comparatively, Agentic AI is more independent. While most AI assistants need a prompt and specific details to create something, all agentic AI needs is an overall goal to complete a task. It requires minimal human effort and is able to search browsers and software to convey research on its own. It can develop things without step-by-step guidance, and modify its own actions when problems present themselves.
Although these perks may seem admirable, the conflicts they are creating economically will make you rethink them.
Overall, AI is expected to impact 60% of jobs in advanced economies, which will either lead to lower wages, or complete elimination. This drastic impact would lead to major changes within society, including the possibility of mass unemployment rates and even increased poverty.
Some may argue against this fact by stating that even though AI could potentially wipe out many jobs and leave many unemployed, new jobs will be created.
This point is very controversial. The new jobs that would be created would most likely all relate to artificial intelligence, which most likely is not what workers want to spend their time on.
Additionally, jobs related to artificial intelligence would entail lots of coding and computer science knowledge, meaning that preparations for the career world would need to be altered. Places of education would need to reorganize their curriculum, shifting our world into a tech-driven fantasy in which humans are not able to pursue their true passions and interests.
Machines would run the responsibilities humans created for themselves over time, and eventually, could terminate the purpose of our species’ existence.
Although this reality is definitely the worst case scenario and would be a long time coming, every generative AI image we create and prompt we send is a step closer to this outcome.
Maintaining artificial intelligence once thousands of robots and machines are already created is harder than tech-experts may realize, and this mistake of a reliance is doing much more harm than good for our world and species.
So, next time you type up that prompt, think twice about clicking send, every individual one could strengthen your own replacement.
